The OxIMUN 2012 Secretariat

The Oxford International Model United Nations Conference is run by a Secretariat made up of University of Oxford students. The members of the Secretariat possess wide-ranging conference management and chairing experience. The Secretariat is headed by the Secretary-General, assisted by his Under-Secretary-Generals who are in charge of co-ordinating the overall organization of the conference.

The OxIMUN Secretariat is a sub-committee of the Oxford University United Nations Association.

Secretary General: Imran Bhaluani

As Secretary-General, it's my pleasure to welcome you to OxIMUN 2012. This will be my third year of involvement with OxIMUN, having been a delegate in 2010 and Deputy for Logistics for OxIMUN 2011; as such, I know very well how exciting and challenging a weekend it will be. Model United Nations has given me many experiences to be thankful for, and I am delighted that this year I will be able to contribute towards similarly memorable experiences for you.

My aim is to make this year's conference an improvement upon last year (a difficult task!), and I encourage you to make the most of everything on offer over the weekend: inside and outside of committee. We're working hard on new initiatives to elevate the quality of the conference, in keeping with our theme of 'Developing Global Partnership', such as increasing worldwide participation through our scholarship scheme.

By the time of the conference, I will be in my final year of studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Christ Church College. I know that when I look back I will consider my decision to continue with MUN as one of the best I've made. It has allowed me to continue my interest in international affairs, sparked when I was studying the International Baccalaureate at school, and to improve my consensus-oriented debating skills. The culmination of all of this will be the Oxford International Model United Nation Conference itself, so I am committed to making the conference a success.

I very much hope you choose to apply, and if you have any queries, questions or suggestions I would be delighted to hear from you. I look forward to meeting you in November.

Under Secretary General for Personnel: Juliane Guderian

Hello! I'm Juliane Guderian, your Under-Secretary-General for Personnel. By OxIMUN 2012, I will be in my third year of studying Law at St. Catherine's College, Oxford. I'm originally from Germany, but grew up attending various international schools throughout Europe. I've been a member of numerous Model United Nations programs for almost six years now and have served numerous terms on the committee of the Oxford University United Nations Association, most recently as President. I've attended numerous MUN Conferences, both as a chair and as a delegate on various committees.

As USG for Personnel, I am delighted to be structuring the committees, as well as selecting and training your chairs, press team and rapporteurs. I look forward to a weekend of fruitful debate, exciting socials and most of all to welcoming you to the wonderful city of Oxford! In the meantime, please feel free to contact me with any questions at personnel@oximun.org.

Under Secretary General for Logistcs: Clare Joyce

Hello! My name is Clare Joyce, and by OxIMUN 2012 I will be in my third year studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at University College. I'm originally from the US; Princeton, New Jersey to be specific. Living in Hong Kong for over a year piqued an interest in international affairs, which I pursued through MUN during high school. I've been a delegate at 17 conferences around the world, and have run several one-day conferences.

As USG for Logistics, I'll be organizing the venues and materials, and seeking to make sure that you get the full Oxford experience. Please do get in touch if you have any questions or concerns! I'm really looking forward to meeting you all soon.

Under Secretary General for Finance: Dennis Egger

Hi everyone! I'm Dennis, a second year reading Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Lincoln College. Upon coming to Oxford from my home country of Switzerland, I joined the Oxford University Model United Nations Association and have since attended various conferences both as a delegate and director. MUN has allowed me to both quench my thirst for international affairs and meet a great variety of enthusiastic and inspiring people from across the globe who share that passion with me.

As USG Finance, I am in charge of the important, but largely unexciting, financial side of OxIMUN. I will do all I can to ensure that you will get the best value for your money. With our new scholarship scheme, OxIMUN reaches out even further, allowing outstanding delegates to attend, regardless of their financial situation.

I am looking forward to welcoming you in this magnificent city for three days of intense and purposeful debates, comprehensive resolutions, great socials and many memorable experiences. Let's work towards true, global partnership! If you have any questions, please do get in touch at finance@oximun.org.

Under Secretary General for Communications: Stephen Wan

OxIMUN is considered one of the best annual Model UN conferences; it is with pride and honour then that I present myself as the Under Secretary General for Communications for our 10th session. Our role in Communications is to ensure that delegates have all the information they need for the upcoming conference, including details on delegation assignments, accommodation and other general enquiries.

We live in a global village, a world of ever shrinking proportions and increasingly fewer barriers. The Model UN has come to reflect this: from the impassioned debate generated amongst the acute minds of this generation, to the intangible social networks that form and permeate throughout the world, no-one can or should leave a conference the same person. Those that I can consider my closest friends have been met through UN simulations and that, if nothing else, motivates myself and my colleagues into making this conference the very best is can be.

As for myself, I am a second year studying Philosophy, Politics & Economics at St Catherine's College. My ambition is to work as a speech writer, articulating and hopefully shaping the debates to come. I wish you the best this coming year, and look forward to seeing, once again, why OxIMUN is renowned for its world class debate.

Social Events Officer: Sixtine D'Angelin

Hi everyone! I'm Sixtine, a second year reading Philosophy, Politics and Economics (a truly fascinating course!) at Hertford College. As you can tell by my name, I'm French and I come from Paris, where I went to an international school. I loved this multicultural atmosphere, which is why I joined the United Nations Association when I came to Oxford, and I've never regretted this decision ever since!

I was already on the Secretariat last year as USG for Communications. Coming back this year, I'm lucky enough to be your Social Events Officer, so I'll make sure that you have the full Oxford experience and as much as fun as possible during your time here!

See you all in November!

Deputy for Logistics: Laura Gill

Hello! My name's Laura Gill and by the time OxIMUN rolls around, I will be a second year reading law at Keble College. I'll be serving as Deputy for Logistics for this year's conference and I could not be more excited. Now a bit about me: I'm the daughter of a Belgian-Dutch mum and an Irish-Indian dad, but I was born and raised in The Hague, in the Netherlands, where I attended the Lycee Vincent van Gogh, a French school. It was there I first got involved in MUN. I joined the OUUNA upon my arrival here and it was one of the best decisions I've made. It's such a friendly, welcoming society, and we get to do very many cool things, ranging from speaker events to international conferences.

My job will involve a lot of running around and making sure the conference goes as smoothly as possible with the USG for Logistics Clare Joyce and the other Deputy Alex Pike. We'll make sure you have the time of your life, right down into the details. If you have any queries, feel free to contact me or any of the other Logistics personnel. See you in November, looking forward to meeting you all!

Deputy for Logistics: Alex Pike

Hi, my name is Alex Pike, and I am greatly looking forward to meeting you all at OxIMUN 2012! I'm the Deputy for Logistics, and I am currently in my first year studying Psychology and Philosophy at New College. I have been taking part in MUN since I was in the lower sixth at school, and attended conferences such as Haileybury and Royal Russell. Model United Nations at university is quite a different experience, and I'm so glad I have had the chance to be involved with it!

My job will essentially be to ensure that the conference goes well and that all the logistical matters such as water and rooms and directions are organised. If you have any questions or suggestions, get in touch at alex.pike@oximun.org. I'm sure that you'll all have a fantastic time, and I hope that you get as much out of discussing international affairs as I have over the last few years.

Deputy for Communications: Brian Chang

Hi there! I am a Fresher reading Law at The Queen's College, although I will be in my second year by the time we meet at OxIMUN 2012. OxIMUN has traditionally had the reputation of having the highest quality debates and socials in the UK, and we will do our best to ensure that the 10th session is better than ever!

As Deputy for Communications, I will be the one answering all your questions regarding accommodations, assignments, and general enquiries. I am also responsible for outreach to non-traditional delegates, including those from faraway places and those who may not be able to afford our (very reasonably priced) conference fees. Our vision for this conference is to increase the quality of debate through diversity, and I would thus like to encourage you to apply!
